SCM starts the test tournament with a win against host Aue

SC Magdeburg continues its successful pre-season series. At the Gü-Sport Hummel Cup in the Erzgebirgshalle Lößnitz, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team wins against host EHV Aue 46-31 (22-13) and is thus in the final of the anniversary tournament.
The coach of the third-division team from the North Division, Uwe Jungandreas, who was also active as a coach at SCM, spoke in the run-up to a “Herculean task” against the German champions – and of a game in which it would be less about the result and more about match practice. Not to forget the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of EHV Aue.
With Steigerlied and energetic shouts from the stands, both sides started the match. SCM scored a goal directly and although Bennet Wiegert used the test match to try out new constellations in attack and defence, the lead grew steadily. In the 24th minute, Matthias Musche scored to make it 19-10, and the lead continued to rise after the break.
Gisli Kristjansson made it plus-ten, Oscar Bergendahl increased again and gradually the score reflected the nominal difference in class between the two clubs. Nevertheless, both sides continued to set accents and created a good atmosphere in the hall. Kristjansson was named player of the match.
“That was another good game from us. We were able to try out a lot and are satisfied that we were able to get the next win,” captain Magnus Saugstrup summed up after the final whistle. “Tomorrow we continue and of course we want to win again.”
In the first game, second division SC DHfK Leipzig beat last year’s third in the Bundesliga SG Flensburg-Handewitt 44-42 (23-20). This means that Flensburg and Aue will meet in the match for 3rd place on Saturday (1.30 p.m.). The tournament victory will be decided between Leipzig and SC Magdeburg in the derby from 4 p.m. onwards.

THIELICKE AND ELZE IN THE FINAL
Not in the Erzgebirge are Tim Thielicke and Malte Elze. The two 18-year-olds are in Serbia with the German youth team – as are the Magdeburg A youngsters Elvis Kretzschmar and Mats Brigzinsky.
At the European Championship, they secured their place in the final against Spain (32-27) on Friday. Gold is at stake on Sunday against Slovenia at 7:30 p.m.
