HSV coach Torsten Jansen: “We wanted to improve after the cup defeat on Wednesday in Dresden, we managed to do that and I’m happy about that. The fact that we catch SCM on the wrong foot after the Club World Cup is convenient for us. We did that brilliantly in the first half. After the break it starts well, but then we become less precise and make a few mistakes. And then it’s due to the class of Magdeburg that we give it away here.”
Bennet Wiegert: “We could talk for hours about the game, what kind of stories there were … Nevertheless, I can summarize it briefly and concisely. Hamburg starts fantastically and can quickly pull away. They are superior to us in all things – character, charisma, appearance. The result was the best of the first half, we gave Hamburg all our strength. In the 2nd half, we stay with ourselves and get the game back together. Maybe a draw would have been deserved, but these important away points count for us. We are happy about that.”
Magnus Saugstrup: “That was too close, I think. But it’s strong from our team how we come back. After such a first half, it’s not easy. In the end, we can play it out more clearly, but that’s the way it is. We are satisfied with the result, but not with the performance. We can do more there.”
