What a game! SC Magdeburg dominates the derby at SC DHfK Leipzig and wins the match in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga on Sunday clearly with 36:23 (19:13).

The first minutes of the game, both backs were in a throwing mood. Leipzig set the pace, Magdeburg followed suit – eight goals were scored within a very short time (4-4, 7th). But then SCM gained an advantage and took advantage of a chain of errors by the hosts. In the 10th minute, Lukas Mertens scored the 8:4 via counter-attack.

Leipzig tried to stop the run with a timeout, but coach Bennet Wiegert’s seven went one better. Magnus Saugstrup increased the lead to 9-4, and in the 13th minute Omar Ingi Magnusson scored to make it 13-7. However, when Sergey Hernandez also got better and better into the game on the Magdeburg side, that changed (18-10, 27th).

At the injury-plagued bottom of the table, the encounter became more and more of an SCM party. On the one hand, because the situation on the field remained clear, and on the other hand, because hundreds of fans in green and red created an atmosphere in the stands.

In the 38th minute, Gisli Kristjansson netted for the first ten-goal lead (25-15), in the 44th minute Tim Hornke scored from the outside with a double with Lukas Mertens to make it 29-15, and when Mertens made it 34-21 in the 54th minute, the game had long since been decided.
