SC Magdeburg lost 35-40 (17-19) to Füchse Berlin in the TruckScout24 EHF FINAL4 and will now play for bronze against Aalborg in the Machineseeker Champions League.

It went straight to the point. Both sides had prepared their defensive lines for a fast attacking game and accordingly went aggressively into defense. The result: In the fifth minute, each of the teams could only score one goal and the fans saw the top game that the schedule had promised in advance.

Magdeburg moved well on their feet and was confident on the ball, in the seventh minute Tim Hornke provided the 3-2 lead. But the DHB Cup winners’ resistance remained high as expected. Every goal was immediately followed by the goal conceded – and the number of shots increased. After a good 14 minutes played, the score was 8:8. Subsequently, a few inaccuracies caused Bennet Wiegert’s team to fall back to 13-10 (18th). A short time later, however, Albin Lagergren was able to reduce the deficit to 13-12 (21st). However, it remained close.

After the break, Magdeburg did not come out of the locker room in the best possible way and fell behind 23-19 (33rd). Again the team caught up (22-23, 35th), again the fight continued. In the 44th minute, Omar Ingi Magnusson equalized with a seven-metre goal to make it 29-29, and in the 48th minute, Matthias Musche scored to make it 32-31.

However, nothing was decided yet. The final phase was dominated by duels and saves – with an advantage for the Berliners. SCM, on the other hand, could not hold on to the lead until the final whistle and will now play for bronze against Aalborg on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Danes lost in the second semi-final 32-37 (28-28, 11-15) after extra time against Barcelona.
