Seventh win in the seventh game! SC Magdeburg wins the Machineseeker EHF Champions League against HC Zagreb 27-22 (10-9). This means that the defending champions continue to lead Group B without losing any points.

The beginning was a bit bumpy. Although coach Bennet Wiegert’s team once again created good chances, the yield remained expandable for the time being. Nevertheless, Omar Ingi Magnusson scored in the seventh minute to make it 3-2 and thus take the lead for the first time. From then on, SCM got into the game better – not least because Matej Mandic saved several balls in goal against his former club.

In the 16th minute, Sebastian Barthold scored the 6-4 and increased the lead to plus three (8-5) in the 19th minute. After that, Magnus Saugstrup managed to increase the lead to 9:5. Due to some inaccuracies, however, the buffer melted down to 10-9 by half-time.

After the break, things went better again. First Felix Claar netted, then Mandic held before Albin Lagergren made it 12-9 and Mandic got his hand on the ball again. It was then Gisli Kristjansson who increased the score again in favor of SCM (13-9, 33rd). By the 42nd minute, the Magdeburgers had extended their lead to 17-11.

The red card after a foul for Oscar Bergendahl caused some unrest in the stands shortly afterwards, but on the field it continued confidently. In the 50th minute, Saugstrup scored to make it 22-15, in the 54th minute Claar made it 26-18 and Barthold finally set the Magdeburg final point.
