SC Magdeburg wins against Wetzlar

In the sold-out GETEC Arena, the game got off to an energetic start. Matthias Musche scored the first goal of the game from seven metres, and after Dominik Kuzmanovic had become active in the Magdeburg goal for the first time, Felix Claar made it 2-0 (3rd). Wetzlar tried to hold their own, especially in the person of Nikolaj Læsø – the Dane scored three of the first four guest goals – but SCM quickly gained an advantage. In the eleventh minute, Felix Claar made it 10-5. For the backcourt player, it was already the fifth goal up to that point.

In the process, the Green-Reds also profited from the mistakes of the guests and once again ran the tempo counter-attack or the second wave. Another factor in this: Kuzmanovic defused several balls that were thrown at his goal and, together with an agile defense, provided strong support that provoked exactly these mistakes. Lukas Mertens made it plus six for the first time (11-5, 12th), Albin Lagergren scored to make it 16-9 (18th) and the result became increasingly clear (23-14, 30th).

Wetzlar was able to net two shots in a row after the break, but the Central Hessians did not get much further. In the 41st minute, first Omar Ingi Magnusson and then Magnus Saugstrup ran a successful counterattack and the score was 29-20.

Little changed in the course of the game as the game progressed. HSG tried a lot and once again showed good variations – but SCM always found answers and did not allow any great danger to arise. In the 53rd minute, Philipp Weber even extended the lead with his goal to make it 34-24. In the end, after the fourth matchday of the Opel HBL, Magdeburg won the game.
