Three out of three! SC Magdeburg gets the next victory in the Opel Handball Bundesliga. On Sunday evening, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team wins 31-30 (13-15) after a hard-fought game at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten.

The “Gauls” showed directly in their hall that their two opening victories back in the Opel Handball Bundesliga were no coincidence. Committed to attack and defense, the promoted team appeared with a lot of conviction, while SCM found its way into the game bumpy. After five minutes played, the scoreboard reported two goals on both sides, but Magdeburg then had to let go a bit in terms of results. Due to inaccurate passes and a defense that acted too harmlessly, the team fell behind by two (6-8, 11th).

Bennet Wiegert put his seven together in the time-out – but the game remained tough. HBW followed up (6-9, 13th), Gisli Kristjansson scored the 8-9 goal (17th), then Balingen scored to make it 13-10 (25th) and it continued in phases. Although the deficit was already four goals in the meantime (14-10, 27th), SCM was able to reduce the deficit to 15-13 by the break and take the momentum into the locker room.

After the restart, Magnus Saugstrup took advantage of the first attack and scored the 14-15. In the 35th minute, Kristjansson equalized at 16-16. Although after being twice outnumbered, there was again a minus-two (17-19, 40th), but the fight continued. In the encounter, which was increasing in physique, Oskar Vind scored from the right wing to make it 20-20 (43rd) and it was again the Dane who scored the 23-22 in the 46th minute and put SCM in front.

Matthias Musche then scored for the first two-goal lead (24-22, 48th) – but nothing was decided yet. In the 50th minute there was another draw (25-25) and the game remained exciting. It was not until the final seconds that the decision was made and Magdeburg took the points with a last-minute goal from Albin Lagergren.
