SC Magdeburg wins at promoted HBW Balingen-Weilstetten in the Opel Handball Bundesliga with 31:30. The quotes and statistics of the game.

HBW coach Matthias Flohr: “Congratulations to Magdeburg. That was a good performance from us. We showed what Balingen is all about and defended outstandingly. We had the right plan to bring Magdeburg to the brink of defeat. It’s in our hands to take something away from this. But then SCM comes with its quality. That’s why I’m a bit disappointed that we couldn’t take a point. Nevertheless, it was a great game with some goosebump moments.”

SCM head coach Bennet Wiegert: “That was a great game. There was everything in it that makes handball: a lot of emotionality, fight and a great atmosphere. Balingen fought for every ball, that impressed me a lot. It was the expected close game. Whether it’s fair that we win here in the end is something everyone has to decide for themselves. I’m just happy about these points and also proud. Because it’s not easy to survive here.”

Oscar Bergendahl: “We’re very happy that we were able to win this today. It wasn’t easy, but we kept fighting. The atmosphere here was unbelievable, of course it does something to us players. You have to fight against that. Balingen play it cleverly and always present us with tasks with their defence. But in the end we get the two points – that’s the most important thing.”

Lukas Mertens: “To have such an intense game so early in the season is unbelievable. Balingen did well and kept giving us tasks. We didn’t get into our game, we didn’t transport the ball well. Balingen, on the other hand, defended intensively and stopped us early. You have to acknowledge that. But we’re fighting back. That shows once again: You always have to be one hundred percent there in the Bundesliga.”
