What makes handball special for you?
Despite the size of the sport, handball is still very family-like. For me, that’s the big difference to many other sports. We are close to the fans and sponsors and this creates a special feeling of cohesion. This also reflects the community within the team. We win together, we don’t have to fight our way through alone – there are still 15 people behind you and say: Come on, let’s do this together! That’s what handball is all about and that’s where very special friendships develop.

What do most people on the pitch overlook that makes you who you are?
Community is extremely important to me. I’m an absolute family man and someone who jumps into the breach for my friends. Individual sports would not have been for me – and I say that even though I once rode motocross.
Your tip for young up-and-coming handball players?
My advice would be: Stay with yourself and pay attention to the people you surround yourself with. Look for an environment that supports you and that helps you move forward. Be ambitious and work hard. If you have a goal in mind and take a small step towards it every day, you will eventually reach that goal.
