SCM builds on fan factor: “Help and carry us”

The journey continues! SC Magdeburg is on its way to the next game in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga, where the duel at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf is imminent at the weekend.

It’s the fourth game in eight days and the third away game – and yet, SCM coach Bennet Wiegert doesn’t want to complain: “It’s been quite a lot lately, but we’re looking forward to the upcoming games and don’t rest on our laurels.”

The next challenge is now ahead in the league. On Sunday, the club will face TSV Hannover-Burgdorf (16:30 CEST, Dyn). And this encounter brings with it a certain explosiveness. Because the last two games at the Lower Saxony were narrowly lost 27:28. In the previous season, when the championship was finally decided by one point, SCM squandered a four-goal lead here, which lasted until eight minutes before the final whistle.

“We know how difficult it will be in Hannover. It’s not without reason that we have been able to score little or not at all in recent years. I expect it to be similarly close and of course hope for a positive outcome for us,” says Wiegert. “But I’m looking forward to it because I have the feeling that we can knock the buck over this time.

While Magdeburg is still unbeaten this season, Hannover has recently suffered some setbacks. The injury-ridden team around coach Christian Prokop lost at promoted GWD Minden (30-33) and is currently in the lower half of the table with 6-12 points. With the victories at HSV Hamburg and against the Rhein-Neckar-Löwen, TSV has also shown a different face.

That’s why Wiegert is counting on the support of the green-red supporters: “Our fans help and carry us. Of course, we hope that many will find their way to Hanover. We’ll need them again and have to throw everything into it.”
