Victory in the duel of the traditional clubs! SC Magdeburg prevailed 45-27 (23-11) in the round of 16 of the DHB Cup at TV Großwallstadt on Wednesday evening and qualified confidently for the next round.

The start was tailor-made for SCM. First Albin Lagergren scored from the half-right, then Sebastian Barthold followed up via a counter-attack and then Gisli Kristjansson increased to 3-0 despite a bad angle (4th). In the eighth minute, the team around coach Bennet Wiegert was already 6-2 ahead.

Then the hosts found their way into the game better in the sold-out Elsenfeld Untermainhalle and reduced the deficit to 7-5 (10th). With a 3-0 run, however, Magdeburg promptly pulled away again (10-5, 12th) and then successively extended the lead. In the 20th minute, Barthold scored to make it 14-7, in the 26th minute Magnus Saugstrup scored first the 21st and then the 22nd goal with eleven goals conceded so far and Omar Ingi Magnusson even went one better before the break.

In the second half, the game continued with a lot of speed and after four minutes of play it was 25-15. Although Großwallstadt did not give up, SCM pulled away more and more. Lagergren scored the 32-17 (43rd), increased the lead again shortly afterwards (36-20) and at the latest when Daniel Pettersson netted to make it 40-23 (53rd), the entry into the next round of the DHB Cup was prematurely perfect.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for 17 and 18 December 2025 and will be drawn after the match between Füchse Berlin and ThSV Eisenach on Thursday (7 p.m.).
