SC Magdeburg loses to TBV Lemgo Lippe on Sunday afternoon at the Lidl Final4 in the bronze medal match in the DHB Cup. In the end, the score in Cologne is 31:35 (15:16) for the team of coach Bennet Wiegert.

Long before kick-off, the Magdeburg chants rang out, and the green and red supporters warmed up the LANXESS arena in Cologne. On the field, however, it took a while for the spark to ignite. SCM started with some mistakes – and Lemgo countered accordingly, so that the Lipperlanders quickly built up a small buffer (2:5, 8th).

From the eleventh minute onwards, coach Benner Wiegert’s team picked up: Matthias Musche, Gisli Kristjansson and Elvar Örn Jonsson scored in piecework, while the defence in cooperation with a strong Matej Mandic between the posts did not allow a goal. The result was a 6:6 after a quarter of an hour of play. Although TBV continued to score from distance, Magnus Saugstrup scored for a 15-14 lead.

After the break, Mandic parried the opponents’ first shot, but on the other side Constantin Möstl countered with an even higher catch rate. And since SCM continued to be careless with the playing equipment, the team fell back to 21-17 (38th). In the 43rd minute, the score was already 18:25.

Magdeburg threw everything into the game until the last minute and continued to look for the duels, but the problem remained the attacking efficiency. Instead of a conciliatory conclusion in Cologne, the second defeat in two days became more and more apparent.
