The SCM YoungsterS had to admit defeat in the home game against MTV Braunschweig with 32:33 (17:18). In a hard-fought, balanced game for long stretches, it was not enough for points in the end.

The YoungsterS came into the game stably and initially delivered a head-to-head race with the guests. Again and again, the Magdeburgers took the lead, but could not pull away decisively. Towards the end of the first half, Braunschweig pulled away with a narrow 18-17 lead.

Even after the change of ends, the game remained close before the guests were able to pull away to four goals in the meantime. The YoungsterS fought back in the final minutes and reduced the deficit, but the equalizer was no longer possible. In the end, there was a narrow 32-33 defeat.

“Today’s defeat hurts. There would have been more in it. We played beautiful handball, but the last greed for victory was simply missing,” said coach Christoph Theuerkauf. Especially in defence, the team allowed too much, conceding too many goals overall.

The disappointment is also great due to the course of the season so far. Despite the defeat, the YoungsterS are still in seventh place in the table. In the last three games against Rostock, Eider Harde and Hildesheim, the team now has the opportunity to pick up more points.
