It is the end of a special career. A career that includes successes with the German national team, but which is also closely linked to the rise of SC Magdeburg in recent years. We say thank you Tim Hornke!
Tim Hornke played for SC Magdeburg for a total of ten years and rose to become a constant performer who impressed both nationally and internationally. This is symbolized by a single number: he scored 1528 goals in the Handball Bundesliga alone. His collection of titles with SC Magdeburg only underlines this fact: German championship, DHB Cup, EHF European League, IHF Super Globe and the EHF Champions League – Hornke has held most of the relevant trophies at club level in his hands more than once.
He never played himself into the foreground as a person. Appreciated for his calmness, consistency and professionalism, he embodied continuity in a squad that was constantly developing for years. He showed himself to be a team-oriented player who never took himself more seriously than the club.
“That was a wonderful handball career. Thank you to my family, my coaches, my teammates – to everyone who has accompanied me along the way. Thanks also to the fans. What you are doing here does not happen a second time. I am very proud to have been a small part of this great handball club,” said Tim Hornke at the end of his career.
With Tim, SCM is leaving a figure of identification who will be missing in handball. But although the 35-year-old will no longer be a regular visitor to the GETEC Arena, the paths will certainly continue to cross here in Magdeburg.
