Manuel Zehnder leaves SCM
SC Magdeburg is giving the next personnel update for the coming season. Manuel Zehnder will leave the Champions League winners after his contract expires in the summer of 2026.
The now 26-year-old midfielder had moved from ThSV Eisenach to SCM at short notice in August 2024 as HBL’s top scorer in the previous season. As a replacement for playmaker Felix Claar, who is currently injured, Zehnder quickly developed into an important person in the Magdeburg squad. Then, however, the Swiss international suffered a knee injury during a training course on 3 January 2025 and has had to take a break ever since.
SCM coach Bennet Wiegert: “Manu was able to help us very quickly after his signing and has fitted in perfectly with the team. Unfortunately, he seriously injured his knee in the jersey of his national team at the beginning of the year, so we had to do without him in recent months. But we hope to see him back on the field in the SCM jersey soon.
We will miss Manu as a player and as a person. We would have liked to continue working with him on his development. After our discussions in recent weeks, however, I can well understand his decision. We will continue to monitor Manu, and I believe that future cooperation is not out of the question for both sides. So let’s see what the future holds.
Until then, we wish Manu all the best for his future and look forward to the time together that still lies ahead of us. Together we still have a lot to do.

That’s why I’m looking forward to returning to the team soon. I want to give it my all again and win the title with the SCM before I start a new chapter. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me during this time – I will never forget that.”
Zehnder joined HC Erlangen in the Bundesliga from HSC Suhr Aarau in the summer of 2022 and was loaned to ThSV Eisenach after the first season. He recommended himself to the promoted team with his goal threat and tackling strength. At SCM, the midfielder has scored 52 goals in 14 Bundesliga games so far, and in the Champions League he added another 43 goals.
