There is something to celebrate again! Four SC Magdeburg players were nominated by the EHF for the Team of the Season, one takes home the coveted Excellence Award.
The European Handball Federation today announced the players voted the most outstanding male players of the 2025/26 season. Magnus Saugstrup from SC Magdeburg is one of the winners as the best circle runner – the Dane was already honoured with the award as the best defender last year.
This year he prevailed against Johannes Golla (SG Flensburg-Handewitt), Luis Frade (FC Barcelona), Bence Banhidi (OTP Bank – PICK Szeged), Felix Möller (Aalborg Handbold) and Kamil Syprzak (Paris Saint-Germain Handball).
A total of six players were nominated for each position based on their performances in the national team and at club level. Among them are Gisli Kristjansson, Felix Claar and Omar Ingi Magnusson. The final selection was made last week by players, coaches, selected press and fans, who were invited to give their opinion on the “Team of the Season”. The votes of the individual interest groups each accounted for 25 percent of the final result.
The complete team can be found on the EHF website. The young player and the MVP of the season will be announced at the draw for the group stage of the 2026/27 EHF Champions League on Friday, 26 June, at 11:00 a.m. in Vienna.
