Bennet Wiegert – this name currently stands for SCM like no other. Born in Magdeburg, he celebrated numerous successes with his hometown club. Now the 44-year-old is being honored by the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

He is one of the few people to have won the EHF Champions League both as a player and as a coach. In addition, there are several German championships, DHB Cup victories and titles at the IHF Super Globe. But Bennet Wiegert’s importance for SC Magdeburg goes far beyond sporting successes.

The Magdeburg native symbolizes success at the highest level as well as down-to-earthness and approachability. He embodies a sense of attachment to his homeland and at the same time lives internationality. He stands for world class and values that have meaning beyond sport – for hard work, passion and humanity.

 

Bennet Wiegert is now being honoured for his outstanding services as a handball player and coach as well as his commitment to youth sports and social projects. Prime Minister Sven Schulze will present him with the Order of Merit of the State of Saxony-Anhalt on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the run-up to the Hummel Cup .

The State Order of Merit is the highest award of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
