Then as now connected to handball: Jens Kürbis

Today we are celebrating one of our alumni again. Magdeburg goalkeeper Jens Kürbis celebrates his 60th birthday. All the best, pumpkins!

Born on October 17, 1965 in Lommatzsch, Saxony, Jens Kürbis found his way to handball at an early age – and via SC Leipzig in 1991 also to SC Magdeburg. Here he played for five years and formed the goalkeeper team with Gunar Schimrock before moving on to VfL Schwartau and later playing for TuSEM Essen.

The goalkeeper made 21 international appearances for the GDR team and competed in the 1990 World Cup. For the German Handball Federation, another 18 games and the 1993 World Cup were added.

“Kürbse” remained loyal to handball even after the end of his active career. As an editor, he works for the Lübecker Nachrichten, among others, and not only accompanies local sports, but also reports on the sports world at international events such as the Olympics.

The SCM family congratulates you warmly and wishes you, dear Jens, all the best and the best of health.
