Finally it’s that time again! After a break of almost five weeks, the boys of SC Magdeburg are back on the ball – and with anticipation into the 61st season of the Opel Handball Bundesliga.

On Wednesday, the SCM handball players went to the first indoor training of the season. Meeting, warm-up – and then it started with the ball. From simple passing to movements with the round leather: Everything was designed to get used to the conditions in the hall and the playing equipment step by step.

However, the players had already seen each other two days earlier. Because the season opener began on Monday with the obligatory media event. Not only did the new team photos and other images take place there, but there was also the opportunity to exchange ideas after the long time away from training.

FIVE NEW FACES

Another focus was on the new signings. However, “new” does not apply to all of them without restrictions. While the two 18-year-olds Malte Elze and Tim Thielicke have made the step from Magdeburg’s youth team to the first team this year, backcourt player Antonio Serradilla is also no stranger. In the 2024/25 season, he already wore the green and red jersey once before he was under contract with HBL opponent TVB Stuttgart for a year.

Goalkeeper Dominik Kuzmanovic, on the other hand, has not yet been in action for SCM, but has already played in the Bundesliga for VfL Gummersbach in the past two years. And: The 23-year-old knows his partner between the posts, Matej Mandic, very well from the Croatian national team.

The squad of the German champions is completed by Oskar Vind Rasmussen. The 25-year-old right winger is playing outside his home country for the first time, but still has some international experience. With his former club GOG, he not only played in the Champions League, he also played for the Danish national team.

Together with the rest of the 17-man squad, Vind and Co. first completed performance diagnostics at the beginning of the week before the first sessions on the floor followed. It starts with the BWG Cup in Halle against HSC Coburg 2000 on 29 July (remaining tickets at the box office), followed by the test match against Corotop Gwardia Opole (tickets) in Ilsenburg on 1 August.

Both games will be broadcast via the live stream of our media partner Volksstimme.
