“Sometimes it takes a little bit of luck”

VfL coach Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson: “That was a deserved win for SCM. We don’t start well, we don’t have access and we make too many mistakes. Then we chase the deficit, but fight our way back. However, we make a few mistakes that you shouldn’t make against Magdeburg. We throw everything into it – that’s why I can’t be dissatisfied. But SCM was always one step ahead of us.”

Bennet Wiegert: “We were a bit tense in the run-up. You never know exactly how you’ll come out of the pre-season and whether you’ve worked for everything the way you imagine. So we’re happy to take two points here in Gummersbach. We’re coming into the game incredibly well and focused. That helps us immensely. Gummersbach never gives up, but the way my boys carry on is outstanding. We save the lead over the finish lines. Sometimes it takes a little bit of luck – and we had that today.”

Magnus Saugstrup: “It was incredibly difficult here today. It was what we expected from the start. But it’s also fun here in this hall, with this crowd – you can see how much tradition there is here. We started very strongly and then a bit of fatigue comes in. Their goalkeeper takes away a few balls and the rhythm changes a bit. But we still pull through and get the two points in the end.”

Dominik Kuzmanovic: “I’m very happy with this game. It’s not easy to get points in Gummersbach. We did an outstanding job as a team throughout the game. It was close again in between, but we stayed cool. Now we can go home happy with two points.”
