Internationally, it continues victoriously! SC Magdeburg wins the game on Thursday evening against Orlen Wisla Plock 27:26 (14:10) and thus causes the Poles to lose their first point in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League.
First action, first goal! After just a few seconds, Omar Ingi Magnusson let the ball wriggle in the net and also added the second goal. However, since several attacks subsequently went nowhere, the guests were able to make it 2:3 in the 6th minute. It was thanks to goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez that the lack of concentration was not reflected more strongly in the score.
Due to the overall high number of errors by both teams, the match remained low-scoring, no goal was scored from the 9th to the 15th minute – until Magnusson ended the lull via seven meters. Gisli Kristjansson then scored the 6-5 (17th) and brought SCM back in front. From then on, the offense increased: First Daniel Pettersson scored, then Felix Claar and finally Hernandez, so that the lead grew to 10-7 by the 24th minute. By the break, the lead could even be extended to 14-10.
However, nothing was decided yet. Plock demonstrated his versatility on the pitch and scored both through shots from distance and through tackling strength – and last but not least through tenacity and patience.
After 45 minutes, the Poles had reduced the deficit to 21-17. And although Philipp Weber scored in the 51st minute to make it 24-19, it remained close. A good two minutes before the final whistle, Plock came within one (26-25, 58th). But the Green-Reds kept their nerve and in the end the next two points in the Champions League were booked – because Hernandez shone with a double save in the last seconds.
