Drama until the end! SC Magdeburg remains unbeaten in the fifth game of the Daikin Handball Bundesliga season. At HC Erlangen, however, the team around coach Bennet Wiegert does not get beyond a 31:31 (11:16).

Even the initial phase did not go optimally. Against the physically present defense of the Erlangen team, behind which ex-Magdeburg player Dario Quenstedt made a name for himself in goal, SCM wore itself out. After a good ten minutes played, the score was 6-2 and four shots had already been missed. Too timid in defense and not consistent enough in attack, Wiegert’s seven did not find their rhythm.

But then Omar Ingi Magnusson scored twice, Sergey Hernandez saved several balls and Felix Claar scored the 5-6 goal in the 16th minute. However, it was not enough for a turnaround. On the contrary: By the break, the deficit had even risen to 16-11.

In the second half, the feature film changed again. SCM prevailed better in isolation, won the duels and forced mistakes by the hosts. With four goals in a row without conceding a goal, the Saxony-Anhalt team reduced the deficit to 17-18 (38th). However, the equalizer failed to materialize and due to slight mistakes, the team fell back to 20-24 by the 47th minute, but was able to catch up again shortly afterwards (23-24, 49th).

In the 55th minute, the desired equalizer was achieved, Magnusson netted for the tenth time and tied 27-27. The decision was made in the final minute. Daniel Pettersson scored to make it 31-31, in the next attack HCE failed in the finish and the point was secure. However, it didn’t get any more.
