There is the thing! The handball players of SC Magdeburg win against the Füchse Berlin 38-31 (20-15) on Saturday and thus bring the Super Cup back to the Elbe for the first time in 25 years.

In Munich’s SAP Garden, SCM got off to a good start. Matej Mandic saved the first shot that was fired at his goal – and made three saves in the first five minutes to a rate of 75 percent. Based on this, the pace was high in the other direction. In the seventh minute, Magnus Saugstrup scored to make it 4-1.

After that, the Berliners also found their way into the match better and scored from the back (6-5, 11th), but the Green-Reds were not deterred. In the 13th minute, the Magdeburg defense intercepted the next ball, Albin Lagergren ran the counterattack and it was plus four for the first time (9-5). Shortly afterwards, Felix Claar increased the lead to 10-5 (15th) and drew a time penalty for the opponents. In the meantime, the lead even increased to 17-10 (24th) after Gisli Kristjansson had once again fueled through the defense.

In the second half, the pace remained high. SCM set up, Berlin followed suit – shortly after the restart, nine goals had already been scored and the score was 25-19 (35th). Important: Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team hardly made any mistakes and was able to pull away first to 28-20 (38th) and then to 30-21 (42nd).

Although the Berliners on the other side did not give up, the feature film hardly changed. Not least because Dominik Kuzmanovic, who came on for the second 30 minutes, repeatedly set accents between the posts. In the 48th, Kristjansson made it 33-26 and slowly the cheering mood in the Magdeburg fan camp rose – despite a red card for Oscar Bergendahl after the third time penalty in the 54th minute. In the end, the SCM supporters were able to celebrate the first Super Cup in 25 years.
