Primetime on Saturday evening! SC Magdeburg will host newly promoted SG BBM Bietigheim in the Opel Handball Bundesliga. For the team around left winger Matthias Musche, the next important points are at stake.

“The promoted teams have started well this year. Bietigheim, for example, was able to gain self-confidence right away in Wetzlar,” SCM coach Bennet Wiegert classifies the SG before the game on Saturday (8 p.m., tickets). “They sold themselves well in their games at times. I think they still have the self-image of winning, which they took up from the second division and seem to be well-rehearsed.”

The Baden-Württemberg team was able to celebrate an immediate victory on their return to the top flight and won 35-33 at HSG Wetzlar. However, four defeats in a row followed against THW Kiel, TBV Lemgo Lippe, ThSV Eisenach and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. In the cup, Bietigheim had to say goodbye in the second round after a narrow 32-34 win against GWD Minden on Wednesday.

However, the squad should not be underestimated. Goalkeeper Martin Tomovski was once again able to make an impact. In addition, the 19-time German international Djibril M’Bengue brings international experience – as do the top scorers Mathias Larson and Marcus Norrbrink.

“We’re looking forward to the next home game. Bietigheim have done really well so far. We’ve analysed a lot in the video. Nevertheless, a promoted team is always a bit of an unknown because you don’t know exactly how the squad works and how they have developed tactically,” said Magdeburg left winger Matthias Musche. “Of course, we’ll do everything we can to win and pick up important points in the Bundesliga again.”
