In the first home game of the season, the SCM YoungsterS received HV Grün-Weiß Werder. After a changeable course of play, the Magdeburgers won 38-37 (18-16) in the end and thus celebrated their first home win of the season.
Through a strong defensive performance and a good performance with a total of 10 saves by goalkeeper Oskar Stieglitz, the YoungsterS were able to gain an early lead. However, the Magdeburgers missed some chances and balls in attack, so that Werder was able to take advantage of these mistakes and was rewarded with the equalizer. In the end, the YoungsterS still went into the half-time break with an 18-16 lead.
In the second half, Werder continued to be accurate, especially on the flanks, and was able to turn the game around. Suddenly, the Youngsters were behind by five goals, with the guest from Werder leading.
But the Magdeburgers showed morale and fought back despite difficult circumstances. Even the injury of Malte Elze and the red card against Max Meyer could not stop the team. The YoungsterS stayed in it and managed to turn the game around again in the final phase. Tim Thielicke and Noah Hensen also showed that they were able to integrate the units in the Bundesliga squad well into the team. Thielicke scored ten goals, Hensen even scored eleven.
“I’ve never experienced a game like this with the YoungsterS. A roller coaster ride of emotions,” coach Christoph Theuerkauf summed up after the game. In the end, there was a narrow 38-37 victory for the Magdeburgers. “I’m just happy that we won this not easy game happily and deservedly in the end,” Theuerkauf continued.
For the coming games, the YoungsterS want to work above all on playing more confidently from the start. The narrow home win also makes up for last weekend’s defeat.
The next home game for the YoungsterS is already next Sunday, September 13. At 4:30 p.m., the team will host Oranienburger HC.
