Home game time in the GETEC Arena! It has been a good three months since the handball players of SC Magdeburg played their last competitive match in their home hall. On Thursday, they will now go straight back into full swing with a top game.

SC Magdeburg vs. Füchse Berlin: This duel has been promising pure excitement for some time now. Less than two weeks ago, the two clubs last met at the Rexel Super Cup – now it’s time again: German champions against DHB Cup winners.

“I can’t get enough of this duel. That’s exactly what I want: Both teams have performed well recently, the competition has grown and it’s a real competition with emotions and everything that goes with it,” explained SCM head coach Bennet Wiegert before the game on Thursday (20:15 CEST, live on Dyn and MDR). “But I’m even more looking forward to the home game. To officially presenting our new players in the GETEC Arena and playing in front of our fans again. We’re all really keen to do that.”

Wiegert and his team do not want to be blinded by the recent 38-31 victory in Munich’s SAP Garden. “I’m expecting a completely different game. The Super Cup is over. Now it’s all about the league and new challenges,” says the SCM head coach. Although the Berliners currently have to make do without Nils Lichtlein and Fabian Wiede, the opponent from the capital should not be underestimated. The team of coach Nikolej Krickau won the opening game at home against MT Melsungen 33-31.

“It’s going to be a tough fight, but that’s exactly the kind of game we want,” said Omar Ingi Magnusson, looking ahead to the game. “I’m looking forward to a great game – at home, with our fans behind us – and against a good team.”
