“We want to set an example right away”

More than 10,000 spectators, a sold-out arena and a very special setting: In Munich’s SAP Garden , SC Magdeburg can look forward to a season opener that has it all – and it’s all about the first title of the season.

“We had a good preparation. Now the anticipation is growing to finally start the season and the competitive matches. Everyone wants to get started. And in Munich, the stage has been set for it,” says SCM head coach Bennet Wiegert, before the match on Saturday at 6 p.m. (live on Dyn). As German champions, he will then meet DHB Cup winners Füchse Berlin with SC Magdeburg. “For me, this is a title that is unfortunately not appreciated enough. But you have to earn to play for it. That’s why it’s also desirable for us to take the trophy with us to Magdeburg. We want to win the thing!”

There have been some personnel changes for the opponents from Berlin this summer. Dejan Milosavljev and Lasse Andersson have left the club, Lukas Herburger and Nejc Cehte now also play for other colours. Frederik Simak returned to the Foxes, Andreas Palicka is to fill the gap in goal.

For SCM, however, the focus on Saturday is not only on the trophy, but also on the new season: “We want to attack again. The Super Cup is the first step. We want to set an example right away,” says Magdeburg’s Gisli Kristjansson. “I’m happy that it’s finally starting again – and then with a game like this. Against the Füchse, for the first trophy of the season and for a title that our current team is still missing.”
