Magdeburg’s former handball player and coach Harry Jahns passed away at the weekend. Jahns was 73 years old. SCM says goodbye to a legend.

Whether from the back or as a defender – Harry Jahns was always a phenomenon on the pitch. He played for SCM for 17 years, won eight GDR championship titles and the DHV Cup three times. With the club, he also became European champion of the club teams and twice European Cup winner of the national champions before ending his active career.

Jahns, who became known as “Iron Harry”, remained loyal to handball and his club afterwards and collected titles as a coach. He won the championship eight times with the A youth team and six times with the B youth team and became Germany’s most successful youth coach at the time. Most recently, he brought his experience to HSV Magdeburg.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family. Goodbye, Harry – we’re going to miss you!
