SC Magdeburg Cup derby scheduled
SC Magdeburg enters the 2nd round of the cup
The DHB Cup goes into the next stage. In the second round, the handball players of SC Magdeburg will also enter the competition. Now it is clear when the game in Dessau will take place.
“Losfee”, former national player Steffen Weinhold, shared the Dessau-Roßlauer HV 06 as the first opponent for coach Bennet Wiegert’s team. The Dessau team beat Tus Vinnhorst 31-28 in the first round and have home rights as a second division team.
“We are looking forward to the task in Dessau. It’s a nice Saxony-Anhalt derby, which of course we want to win and thus reach the round of sixteen,” explained SCM managing director Marc-Henrik Schmedt, who last season had switched to the hall of the neighboring club with SCM when the home GETEC Arena was occupied for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. “The club last supported us in the Champions League, maybe we can now return the favor as an attractive home draw with a sold-out crowd.”
There were 26 teams in the draw – 16 of them from the Daikin Handball Bundesliga, 9 from the 2nd league and third-division team TV Emsdetten. As always, the lower-division club has home rights – based on the league affiliation of the 2024/25 season.
The 2nd round will be played from 30 September to 02 October. However, since SC Magdeburg, as Champions League winners, is playing for the club world championship at the IHF Super Globe at this time, the match against Dessau has to take place at a later date. The match will be made up on 21 October (kick-off 7 p.m.).
The winners of the 13 games qualify for the round of 16, which will be played on 5/6 November. Then the three top teams of the last Lidl Final4 will also enter the competition: cup winner THW Kiel, vice cup winner MT Melsungen and third-placed HBW Balingen-Weilstetten.
The quarter-finals will be played on 17/18 December 2025, the Lidl Final4 for the DHB Cup will take place on 18 and 19 April 2026.
