Finally home game again! On Wednesday, the time has finally come: The first game of the season in the green and red living room will take place. There will be a derby to kick things off.

“We’ve had another long weekend now – the last for a very long time, and we’ve been able to recharge our batteries, especially mentally,” says coach Bennet Wiegert, who is looking forward to the match against ThSV Eisenach on Wednesday (8 p.m.) after the successful start in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga at TBV Lemgo Lippe (33-29) last Friday evening. “We’re looking forward to the game in front of our fans and to being able to present ourselves there. It will certainly be a great atmosphere in the GETEC Arena again.”

Just two weeks ago, the Magdeburgers defeated Eisenach 34-21 in the Wartburg Cup. However, Wiegert does not want to give the result too much evaluation. “I don’t think that was the face that Eisenach will show in the league. For us, however, the win was important – and Eisenach certainly tried to beat us,” explains the coach.

Meanwhile, ThSV, which has been led by coach Sebastian Hinze since this season, won its first league game against SC DHfK Leipzig 31-27 and travels to Magdeburg with a tailwind.

For the three Magdeburg newcomers, the match is the first competitive game in the GETEC Arena in front of home fans. “I’m excited to see the fans and I’m really looking forward to feeling the atmosphere,” says Matej Mandic, who, like Wiegert, naturally wants two points for the home opener.
