“None of us will take this lightly”

SCM coach Wiegert looks ahead to the next game

Let’s go to the next home game! SC Magdeburg will host TVB Stuttgart in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga at the weekend. The two clubs have already played against each other in pre-season. Coach Bennet Wiegert and his team are not only warned for this reason.

“With Stuttgart, the next tough opponent in the Bundesliga awaits us, as we do every week,” says Wiegert, referring to the game at the Hummel Cup at the SCM season opener (29-25). “That’s when we noticed how difficult they are to play against in all parts, as they present you with an incredible number of challenges, both in attack and in defence.”

After a 33-36 defeat at home against HSV Hamburg, a 29-29 draw at SG Flensburg-Handewitt and a 35-28 win against Bergischer HC, the team around German international Kai Häfner has recently gradually improved in terms of results. Under the new coach Misha Kaufmann, who moved from ThSV Eisenach to Swabia, one or the other tactical surprise is always to be expected.

For the match on Sunday (16:30 CEST), Wiegert is therefore again counting on help from the stands: “We hope for maximum support from the hall to find our way. None of us will take this lightly. We are clearly warned by the latest results.”

Meanwhile, the duel also brings together the best league scorers at the moment: Magdeburg’s Omar Ingi Magnusson with 32 goals and Stuttgart’s Kai Häfner with 26 goals on 36 shots each.

Also not to be underestimated in the Stuttgart squad is Antonio Serradilla. The Spaniard won the Champions League with SCM three months ago and has been playing in the TVB jersey since this season. With the “Wild Boys”, he scored eleven goals and provided five assists in the first three games, while in defense he contributed two blocks and a steal.
