Round of 16! SC Magdeburg prevails in the 2nd round of the DHB Cup at second division Dessau-Roßlauer HV with 44:34 (19:15) and qualifies confidently for the next round.

“We want to advertise handball and our club,” SCM coach Bennet Wiegert had said in the run-up to the game and that’s exactly what they succeeded in doing on Tuesday evening. In the sold-out Anhalt Arena, Dessau first set the pace and in the 4th minute made it 1:4 from Magdeburg’s point of view. Then SCM found their way into the game better, reduced the deficit to 4-5 (8th), equalized to 7-7 in the 15th minute, before Omar Ingi Magnusson scored to make it 8-7 (17th) and established the first two-goal lead (10-8, 20th).

But Dessau did not give up and demonstrated once again how high-quality the 2nd German league is and what quality the currently fifth-placed neighboring club from Saxony-Anhalt has in the squad. In the 22nd minute, ex-youngster Yannick Danneberg equalized to 10:10. However, due to some mistakes on the part of the hosts, SCM was able to pull away to 16-11 (26th).

Against the qualitatively broader squad of the Champions League winners, the DRHV had to let go more and more as the game progressed. In the second half, Felix Claar made it 21-15 (33rd) shortly after the restart, Lukas Mertens scored a little later to make it 24-17 (36th) and Magnus Saugstrup made it plus ten (31-21, 44th).

After that, it remained clear and SC Magdeburg ultimately secured their place in the round of sixteen. This means that the opponent in the next round on November 5 (7:30 p.m., tickets) is TV Großwallstadt.
