There are the next two points! SC Magdeburg wins against the Rhein-Neckar-Löwen 28-24 (11-13) on the eleventh matchday and thus remains unbeaten in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga.

The foundation was laid in defence. Oscar Bergendahl started the game with a block and also worked impressively against the opponent’s circle in the centre of defence. Sergey Hernandez impressed between the posts and defused a seven-metre penalty in the early stages. When the offensive got rolling, SCM quickly took a 5-2 lead (9th).

But then ex-Magdeburg player Mike Jensen came into the game better and thwarted several Magdeburg shots, while David Späth saved three penalty throws, so that Mannheim equalized in the 15th minute to 7-7 and then also gained a lead (7-9, 18th). In the 20th minute, Lukas Mertens scored to tie 9-9, but the deficit increased again by the break (13-10, 29th).

In the second half, both sides picked up where they had left off: SCM threw away too much, the Lions profited. Although the hosts shortened several times, the knot did not really want to burst. Not least because there was hardly any flow of play due to numerous seven-metre shots.

In the 43rd minute, however, Mertens scored the 19-20, Daniel Pettersson added the 20-20 after winning the ball and when Hernandez then fended off a free, the momentum changed – in the 49th minute, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team was ahead by plus four (24-20). The Lions continued to provide impetus, but the game was decided before Steven Plucnar saw red after his third time penalty (59th).
