Stay on track! SC Magdeburg wins the game at TVB Stuttgart on Sunday evening with 30:26 (14:14) and thus consolidates the lead in the Daikin Handball Bundesliga.

In the sold-out Stuttgart Arena, the spectators saw a game at eye level from the start: After six minutes played, both sides scored two goals each. But then Magdeburg missed a few chances and the hosts took advantage (4-2, 8th). However, SCM quickly made up for the small deficit with an agile and anticipatory defence, and Gisli Kristjansson scored in the twelfth minute to make it 5-5.

Since Stuttgart continued to create new challenges with their style of play including a fourth backcourt player and also provided a compact defence, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team fell back to 12-9 (21st). Nevertheless, Elvar Örn Jonsson scored in the 26th minute to make it 12-12 and the Saxony-Anhalt team again tied the score before Kristjansson scored the first lead (13-12, 27.).

After the break, Magdeburg went one better. Tim Hornke scored from the seven-metre line to make it 18-16 (37th) and also via penalty throw to make it 20-17 (40th). And the lead continued to rise. Between the posts, Matej Mandic provided the necessary support, up front the duels were won. In the 46th minute, Felix Claar made it 23-19, Kristjansson increased it to 24-19 just under two minutes later.

With the help of the seventh outfield player, Stuttgart reduced the deficit again (24-22, 51st), but SCM did not let themselves be unnerved. In the 56th minute, Matthias Musche put the ball in the goal from the outside (27-23) and ultimately the next two Bundesliga points were on the books for him and the Magdeburg team.
