SC Magdeburg defeats Szeged in the quarter-finals of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League and wins the second leg 45-37. The reactions and statistics of the game.

Szeged coach Michael Apelgren: “First of all, congratulations to Magdeburg. We started this quarter-final with big problems. Even if we hadn’t had to do without so many injured players, it would have been difficult to beat Magdeburg – especially here in their own hall. Today they walked even more. That was strong and the victory was deserved.”

Bennet Wiegert: “Of course we are happy. I’m happy and proud – that was one of our best games of the season. We made few mistakes, went up the pace … the team showed a fantastic performance. That was unbelievable. When I look at what we’ve built up here over the past ten years, it’s special. It’s not a matter of course that we’re in the Final4 for the fourth time in a row and have already won the title twice.”

Magnus Saugstrup: “That was tough again, but also the second really good quarter-final for us. We kept the tempo high and although they scored a lot of goals, we continued to solve it through counter-attacks and simply ran even more. This is not something that can be taken for granted, but something that can and should be celebrated. We’re now in the Final4 for the fourth time in a row – that’s unbelievable.”

Sergey Hernandez: “That was a really fast game and exactly what we wanted after Szeged had to accept some injuries recently. We wanted to make them tired. I’m really proud of the team and very happy to be able to compete in Cologne again. Let’s win the title again! But for now, we’re focusing on the Bundesliga again, where we can achieve a lot.
