The early championship has just been celebrated in the GETEC Arena, and already the focus is on the next task. In the Daikin Handball Bundesliga, SC Magdeburg will travel to Mannheim.

As exuberant and euphoric as the mood was on Thursday evening, when the team around coach Bennet Wiegert was not only able to celebrate the victory against SG Flensburg-Handewitt, but also the early title, the handball routine continues just as quickly. Because the season is not over yet! SC Magdeburg still has three games to play in the Bundesliga – and as always, the maximum yield should be taken.

“Of course, we want to continue the next games as before. This should not have been our last highlight. Maybe it wasn’t the last title this season,” Tim Hornke looks back on the final phase, which is synonymous with the last games for the right winger, who ends his career in July. “I want to soak it all up and enjoy it all again.”

It remains to be seen to what extent Mannheim will accommodate him in this plan. The eighth-placed team is confidently in the midfield of the Bundesliga and recently won against MT Melsungen and TVB Stuttgart. Once again, backcourt player Haukur Thrastarson attracted a lot of attention, contributing 18 goals and 10 assists in these two games alone, but has already shaped Mannheim’s game throughout the season.

“This will be the next difficult task for us,” SCM coach Bennet Wiegert looks ahead to Sunday’s game (3 p.m. / Dyn, welt.tv). “Of course, it’s something special now to find the focus after such a highlight, but our goals remain the same. We want to keep winning and not be accused of anything in the last few games. Anything else wouldn’t do justice to the league and wouldn’t be fair to the fans either.”
