Captain Christian O ́Sullivan leaves SCM after 10 years

SC Magdeburg is saying goodbye to a formative personality: Long-time captain Christian O’Sullivan will leave the German champions after the 2025/26 season. Today, the 34-year-old will be ceremoniously bid farewell.
O’Sullivan moved to SC Magdeburg in the summer of 2016 after starting his career in his Norwegian homeland with Bækkelagets SK and then playing for Swedish first division club IFK Kristianstad for two years. On the Elbe, the backcourt player then won all the major club titles: EHF European League (2021), IHF Super Globe (2021, 2022, 2023), EHF Champions League (2023, 2025), DHB Cup (2024) and the German Championship (2022, 2024, 2026).
The 206-time Norwegian international became a figure of identification in Magdeburg. For years, he led the team onto the pitch as captain. With his leadership, his professionalism and his tireless commitment, he played a decisive role in shaping one of the most successful epochs in the club’s history. Tonight, O’Sullivan will be officially bid farewell after the home game against VfL Gummersbach.

Today he is one of the most successful players ever at SCM, and I personally owe him a lot. In his role as captain of our team, we worked very closely together. We have experienced ups and downs together, always united in one thing: wanting the best for the team and the club. His commitment and loyalty are extraordinary. I wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”
Christian O’Sullivan: “The time in Magdeburg was something very special for me. I have not only achieved everything here in terms of sport, but also made many friends. It was an honour for me to play for this club and it will be difficult to leave. I am proud of what we have built here together. It was a long road that was very successful in the end. In my career, I was able to travel all over the world and fulfill my dreams – the fact that I was able to do that fills me with great gratitude. Now is the time for me to go. But I will always carry the SCM in my heart and will certainly be a guest in the hall many times to come. I wish the club and the team all the best for the future and continued success.”
