SC Magdeburg Wins the German Championship

Before the game started, everyone at the GETEC Arena knew it was a special night. The fans in green and red had made a special show for the championship. The HBL (Handball Bundesliga) brought the trophy to the arena. But first, the players had to play a hard handball game.

The visiting team from North Rhine-Westphalia played very fast and strong at the start. They made Magdeburg feel pressure right away. At the 8th minute, the score was 6-3.

Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team did not give up. Omar Ingi Magnusson scored and made the score 8-9 by the 14th minute. Felix Claar tied the game at 10-10 in the 17th minute. Then Oscar Bergendahl scored, and Magdeburg led 13-12 at the 19th minute. The game stayed exciting and many goals were scored. By halftime, the teams had scored 38 goals.

After the break, both teams came back with a lot of energy. At the 37th minute, Matthias Musche scored to make it 22-22. But Gummersbach kept playing fast and tried to win again and again. Fans watched a great game. SC Magdeburg got a better result at the end.

This game was special for player Tim Zechel too. He played his 200th game in the Handball Bundesliga. This season, SC Magdeburg did not lose any games at home. They only gave away a point in a game against THW Kiel.

After the game ended, there were many emotions. The players got the championship trophy in a ceremony. Then, some players said goodbye because they will leave the team after this season.
