Victory against Eisenach: SCM wins second game at the Wartburg Cup

On Saturday, many handball fans came to Eisenach to watch games. First, the Youth Wartburg Cup took place. The Magdeburg B-Youth team won against two teams: SG Nickelhütte Aue (35:13) and ThSV Eisenach (34:13).

After that, at 3:30 p.m., two professional teams played: TBV Lemgo Lippe and SG Flensburg-Handewitt. It was a close and exciting game. SG Flensburg-Handewitt won with 34 to 32 points. The score at halftime was 18 to 16.

SC Magdeburg plays fast and strong

In the evening, SC Magdeburg (SCM) played against ThSV Eisenach in the Werner-Aßmann-Halle. A lot of SCM fans were there. The game was fast. In the 4th minute, Gisli Kristjansson scored and made it 4-2. Soon after, Matthias Musche scored four goals and the score was 9-4 in the 9th minute.

SC Magdeburg had good defense. Matej Mandic helped the team a lot by stopping many goals. In the 14th minute, their goalkeeper also scored, making it 11-4. Felix Claar made the score 17-7 in the 19th minute. Musche scored again to make it 19-7 in the 24th minute.

New players bring fresh energy

After the break, SCM coach Bennet Wiegert brought in new players to help the team: Lukas Mertens and Oskar Vind. Dominik Kuzmanovic played as goalkeeper. Even though Eisenach got closer for a short time (22-16 in the 33rd minute), SCM kept scoring. Vind made it 27-17 and Mertens made it 29-19.

Kuzmanovic scored too, making it 37-24 in the 52nd minute. Tim Thielicke completed the 40 goals (40-28 at 57 minutes). In the end, SCM won safely.

Philipp Weber said, “It is always fun to play here. This tournament is great every year with a good and exciting atmosphere. Our game was very steady today. We took a strong lead early, and then kept it until the end. It was a good performance.”

On Sunday: SCM vs. Flensburg

Now, SCM will play against SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Sunday. This year, Flensburg has some new players because some old players left. New players are Emil Bergholt, Aymeric Minne, Simon Müller, and Arnar Arnarsson.

On the first day of the tournament, Flensburg won 31-28 against Eisenach. Both SCM and Flensburg have two wins each now. They will play to win the Wartburg Cup on Sunday. The game starts at 1 p.m.
