Tim Hornke on His Future: “I’ll Continue to Build on That”

Tim Hornke spent most of his career in Magdeburg. We asked him what makes this city special to him:

Tim: A lot. I started my professional handball career here in Magdeburg. I also ended my career here. This city was a big part of my handball life. I met my wife here. My children were born here. We want to live here for a long time. That is why Magdeburg means a lot to me, just like the club.

Many say the fans create a special atmosphere in the hall. What do you think?

Tim: I agree. The fans here in Magdeburg are really unique. I think no other place in Germany or maybe in the world has such strong fan support.

Looking back, if you made an All-Star team from your old teammates, who would you choose?

Tim: It is hard to pick just seven players. I would probably take the current team. I would also add Piotr Chrapkowski from my past teammates. He always made the dressing room a good place and was fun to play with.

Who was an opponent you found hard to play against?

Tim: There were many. When I was young, I played against Tomasz Tłuczyński in Hannover. He was a Polish national player and a winger who liked to play 1 on 1. That was hard to defend.

What will you miss most now after playing for so long? The games and excitement or the team atmosphere?

Tim: For now, I am happy not to feel that excitement all the time. I am looking forward to a quieter time. But I will miss both the adrenaline and the boys. I will still live in Magdeburg and I am sure I will visit games and meet the team in the dressing room sometimes.

How will you continue now?

Tim: About a year and a half ago, I started a company. I was running it a little while still playing handball. The company works in real estate management and brokerage. I will grow this business. I already have a small real estate portfolio that will get bigger.

Tim: Yes, they can. The company is called Real Estate Management Tim Hornke.

Finally, do you want to say something to the fans?

Tim: I want to thank the fans for their support over the years. I have said it many times, but I am happy to say it again. Your support is world-class. Please keep it up. I will be here sometimes and we will not lose contact. I look forward to that!
