SC Magdeburg Wins Bronze in the Champions League

The game was played in Cologne at the LANXESS arena. From the start, SC Magdeburg showed they wanted to win a medal. Gisli Kristjansson worked hard and passed the ball quickly. The team, led by coach Bennet Wiegert, took the lead with a score of 8-6 in the 13th minute.

Goalkeeper Matej Mandic helped the team keep their lead. In the 16th minute, Tim Hornke scored in his last handball game, making the score 10-6. Then Lukas Mertens scored from the other side, and the score became 13-8 in the 21st minute. Hornke scored again to make it 16-10.

SC Magdeburg kept their strong play and went into the break leading 17-10, with Kristjansson scoring again just before halftime.

At the start of the second half, Mandic saved the ball for the tenth time. Albin Lagergren scored to make it 18-11 shortly after. Magdeburg played well on defense and kept their opponents under pressure. The opposing team, the Danish champions and cup winners, tried hard to catch up. By the 39th minute, the score was 21-17.

But Magdeburg’s win was safe. Lagergren scored again to make it 23-17 at 42 minutes. Mandic saved another shot. Even when the other team used an extra player, Magdeburg increased their lead. Omar Ingi Magnusson scored 26-18 at 49 minutes. Manuel Zehnder made it 30-23 at 56 minutes. The game was clear before it ended.

SC Magdeburg finished the summer season with a win. They won the bronze medal in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League.
