Elvar Örn Jonsson Leaves SC Magdeburg

Elvar Örn Jonsson joined SC Magdeburg in the summer of 2025. Before that, he played for MT Melsungen for four years in Hesse. He also played for Skjern Håndbold and his hometown club, Selfoss, in Iceland.

At SC Magdeburg, he played well in the German Bundesliga and in international games. He helped the team win the German championship.

Next year, Jonsson will leave SC Magdeburg. Bennet Wiegert, the Head Coach and Sports Director, said:

“It’s a shame that Elvar is leaving us early. He joined the team quickly and did his job well. I wish him the best for his future. I am sure he will work hard for our team until his last day.”

Elvar Örn Jonsson said:

“I had a great time in Magdeburg. I am thankful for all the experiences here. From the first day, I felt good with the club, the team, and the city. I will miss the fans and the exciting atmosphere at the GETEC Arena. Winning the German championship was a very special moment for me. It was like a big dream coming true. Even though I will go to another team next season, I am focused on SC Magdeburg now. I will do my best to help the team win more and fight for titles.”
